Graphic design Internship

J.U.I.C.E.(Join Us In Creative Enterprise) studio engages in graphic designing practices ranging from creating Logo Symbol, Corporate Stationery, Ads, Brochure, Packaging Design.

Through the course of this studio, there were different elements of Graphic designing that I got introduced to, which helped in efficient designing and better placement and composition of the important inputs in the design.

To understand the processes involved in the designing of a product different elements were being looked upon. Some of the basic topics that drive the design thinking processes are:

-Colour theory and schemes,

-Font anatomy,

-Layout and placement details,

-Packaging materiality and its properties,

-Food guidelines etc

COLOUR THEORY AND SCHEME

To understand this element and its use in the designing process, I came across the colour schemes that are used globally which are RGB and CMYK for digital and print media respectively.

RGB

This colour scheme comprises of Red, Green and Blue colour and is known as additive colour scheme as the addition of all these colours give white colour.

CMYK

This colour scheme comprises of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black(key) colour and is known as subtractive colour scheme as the addition of all these colours give black colour.

Pantone colours

These are formula based colours that are produced artificially unlike the RGB and CMYK.

LAYOUT AND COMPOSITION

Through this element, readability of information, negative spaces, breathing spaces and some of the other important outputs where being looked upon. This element improves the nature of the design in terms of sense of direction, readability and compositional understanding.

Through the packaging design perspective, I got to learn about the important information that needs to be seen on the packaging and the guidelines and sizes in which these information are being displayed.

TEXT ANATOMY

The usage of different fonts and their composition directly impacts the packaging. To understand the fonts that can be displayed in the packaging, one has to go through the anatomy of typography, also to understand the glyphs and possibilities in the font usage and placement.

These are some of the works that I assisted on...

REFLECTIONS OF THE STUDIO

-Through the course of this internship, I got to learn about various elements that drive the graphic design processes. From understanding the colour schemes used in the print media, fonts anatomy, composition and placement etc.

-I also got to interact with clients and understand the communications driving the process. Working in the corporate environment taught the type of problems that we do not get to experience in academic space.

-While designing the packages, I got to learn about the guidelines of the food industries and the necessary placements of certain information in the packaging.

-I got to learn about the file formats and their significance in transferring information to the printers and clients.

-Through the print packaging works I learnt about the different base colour that help in changing the texture of the packaging and different elements that can be added to the design like gold foiling and printing, embossing etc.
